If this software is not going to be made accessible to screenreader users the
banks cannot diminish the service to those of us who cannot avail ourselves of
it. given the current bad publicity the banks are currently having,
particularly RBS, perhaps it would be better to go for the banks than the
software providers and force them to put the pressure on those from whom they
bought the software.

Reader Friendly.
Hi Steve,
The link on my previous mail takes you to the RBS site, which explains what
the software is for and how, in addition to normal anti virus software, it
proclaims to protect on-line users of Digital banking.
It seems that many of the banks, up and down the country, are buying into
Rapport Security and I would not be surprised, working for a bank myself, that,
once the software is generally usable across XP, Vista and Mac, they make it
compulsory to use it or create some loophole or other, stating that they will
not be favourable towards customers who do not use it and have had their
security compromised.
By the way, the response from Trusteer, just received, states that they have
no time-scales or plans to make Rapport accessible to screen readers.
Many Thanks, With Kind Regards,
Charles Nicol

Hi Charles,
But no-one has really answered the question as to what this software is.
What is it? Do we need it? Why are we campaigning for accessibility for
someone we know very little about?
Just let the antivirus, antispyware, stuff take care of it, don’t install,
and move on.
All the best
Steve

Subject: [bcab] Rapport Digital Banking Security Software Is Not Screen
Reader Friendly.
Hi,
Following a recent discussion on this list around the compatibility of
Rapport Security Software with screen readers, I have the following back from
Trusteer, the company which many of the UK banks appear to be engaging in order
to provide extra security for their Digital Banking customers. I currently have
asked the question, in response to the following Email, as to when we might
expect compatibility, citing the Disability Discrimination Act and am awaiting
an answer to this.
In the meantime, if your bank encourages you to download this software to
enhance your security on-line, please do not do so and, instead, petition your
bank and Trusteer to have the software made accessible. Again, this is an
example of not considering the needs of visually challenged people at the
outset, when software houses develop their projects and, now that the software
has been released, it will probably take a lot of effort and re-work to make it
compatible to assistive technologies.
I will report back when I have the all important answer- if they get around
to answering my question.
Many Thanks, With Kind Regards,
Charles Nicol
