[bcab] Re: QuickTime

Hi Wendy, QuickTime is a video format, and another one of those annoying
programs like realplayer in that many organisations assume we all have it,
and it sits in your system tray and tries to grab everything, tell you of
updates, try and sell you stuff etc. Unfortunately it is often used as the
format for video downloads, and, as in this case, web pages.
I have looked at the site, and the QuickTime video is only a small part of
it. However, it requires you to download an activex control to view it. A
very naff web page I'm afraid, and it doesn't say that much either.
The General Contacts page says this:
"Should you wish to get in touch with us, or any of the related companies
working with us, to deliver this exciting visitor attraction, please e-mail
us at the following e-mail address: enquiries@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx This e-mail
address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to
view it"
If you're thinking of visiting, I would suggest leaving it a while. They
haven't got a lot of the technology working yet, so for example, the river
ride has no smells or sounds! I know this because I live in the area, and
the local press has been full of complaints from those who have been - and
they were all sighted!

Subject: [bcab] QuickTime

Please could anyone tell me about Quicktime. I was trying to get onto the
following site:

www.dickensworld.co.uk

It told me that I needed to download Quicktime to be able to access the
page. I tried to do this, but JAWS stopped speaking, and nothing seemed to
be happening for a while, so I turned off the PC in disgust. Turning on
again seems to have done no harm, but I don't want to try that site again
until I know more about QuickTime. It is an Apple program, I gather, so I
don't know why I should need it on my HP PC.

Any advice much appreciated.

Wendy
