Hi Mark,
Your question is very difficult to answer without knowing roughly what level
you have already attained.
If you have decided that you definitely want to learn Visual basic and want to
use it professionally, you almost certainly need to read up on the newer dot
net technologies.
If you don't yet know about the basics of all programming languages such as
statements, variables, types etc. then you may need to look at something which
can give you a bit of background in these things.
There is a wiki book on programming in general at:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Programming
You will find a table of the various elements of programming on this page that
includes links to descriptions of the way in which each language approaches the
subject.
There is a free download of Visual basic 2005 express and blind programmers
have developed some Jaws scripts to make it more accessible. I don't have the
links to hand at the moment but can post them if you are interested.
I should add that I don't use Visual basic and haven't tried vs2005 myself.
Resources to investigate include:
http://www.programming.com where you will find a great many books, links and
articles on various programming subjects along with instructions on subscribing
to the blind programming mailing list.
Also, http://www.empowermentzone.com where you will find further tutorials
helpful programs and scripts for Visual basic 2005 which, if I remember
correctly, is called something like "msenv2005.exe".
Finally, I suggest that you try to find someone who already knows the language
and can advise you on a day-to-day basis.
Most programmers work in a team.
It is very easy to hit a complete block when programming without another to
bounce ideas off and receive suggestions from.

Subject: [bcab] Question on learning Visual Basic with JAWS...
Hi everyone hope someone has experiance here of programmeing with
using a Screenreader.
I'm using JAWS version 7 under Windows XP, and I'd really like to
finally get round to learning to programme, partly just for myself,
and partly to aid in lookign for work. I've read a fair few things
about Visual Basic and other languages, and an awful lot seemed to
suggest Visual Basic is a good language to start with. Obviously,
though using JAWS I need something that is accessable for me to use,
so does anyone have experiance of JAWS and Visual Basic, and any
suggestions on a good bit of software to use to do visual basic
programmeing with JAWS?
Thanks in Advance
Mark
