I would agree with you as long as you are aware of the pitfalls. I was
lucky took a bank through the process simply wanted statements in audio
format not just for myself but others, as stated there is no computer
teaching in my town and many elderly people will never in late life learn
Braille or computing but they can listen to a tape. I only asked for the
minimum amount to cover my costs you have to conciliate of course or DRC
won't take you on. The Stratford call centre is in Stratford on Avon, the
0845 one, they lost all my mail and paperwork finally it was found and sent
to Manchester Armsdale House, who promptly lost it again, by now I am timed
out as you have six months minus a day. still the Bank are so daft they
don't know this. a few days after my meet up with the Bank Rep and a
Conciliation worker, the Bristol Arm that was the arm that sets up the
conciliation for the client it went into Receivership and all was held up
It seemed to me to be an irony that the only efficient Department went bust.
the Legal Dept at Judd Street were not knowing what to do as they had a lot
in the pipe line. I didn't use them by the way I dealt myself. I contacted
my MP. and asked him to investigate why the onus not to be timed out is on
the client even if the fault is the DRC. he took my point and raised it
with the Board of commissioners. I did keep Derek Neysmith updated by
sending copies of my Mp mail Mr Greg Clarke. well eventual he gets back a
letter saying what I have told you in spite a of any mishmash on their part
the Onus is always on the poor client greg Clarke knows it is not just I
have spoken to him, he is a conservative Mp and maybe one day the
commissioners of the DRC will understand natural justice applies even to
them a Board of I think 11 Commissioners what the heck they think is just So
before you go on too much about the DDA the DRC remember if anything goes
wrong it will always be your fault Yours cynically Dorothy.
Ps they appointed a replacement for the Bristol arm in January a long wait
from October last year.

I would consider going to the DRC with this.
It is unlikely, that the employer, and possibly ATW are making "reasonable
adjustments" by dragging out the processes that have been identified in
the
mailing list.

yes you give good advice a young man I will not name fought a battle
for
unfair dismissal and he won his case, it meant a big ordeal and a 3 day
Tribunal eventually he was after many refusals offered a job, he was due
to
start last October, but endless hitches have caused a stumbling block
first
the Company needed a person from RNib to link up with the Company a large
Bank and the software Suppliers,, let's say for arguments sake he uses
Jaws date after date was postponed, date of start was moved to January,
then to March, when I last heard it is July!! All he thinks is due to lack
of co-ordination between those he must rely on however I asked him tell
me
what are the terms and conditions have you seen a Contract of Employment,
to
all these questions he has answered in the negative only saying "I am sure
they will find a spot for me and not let me down" I hope he is right.
However re America and my young lister friend lives in Bradford but in
the States why did the Amendment to the Civil Rights Act supposed
to
benefit VIP's backfire and cause Employers not to even consider giving a
job to a Vip? stats show whereas VIPs between 18 to 55 years had
previously a figure of seventy percent unemployment it rose to 85 percent
as
Employers thought it was going to cost them something Friend and he is
someone I do consider a friend is Chief Technician for a piece of
software
I rely on I know he knows what he is talking about. I am not talking
Jaws
but a product that reads my mail tells me what I am going to have for
lunch 'easy meals' and I know he would not exaggerate as he said you
could
drive an HGV through the equivalent of our DDA Act. Dorothy.

Most job offers have a 6 month probationary period, i.e. if you just
can't
hack the work or prove to be unreliable, they can dismiss you without
penalties. I would assume that this HR lady is deliberately being loose
with her language. A word with her superior may help - "just to clarify
the
matter". The other option is to go back to the person who headed the
interview panel to check whether your post is conditional.

Subject: [bcab] Problems with a potential new employer
Hi all.
I'm looking for some advice.
Back in December I interviewed for a job with an IT company here in
Belfast.
My role is to be a Systems Engineer.
I'm finding HR very legalistic and at points awkward.
The lady from HR who is dealing with acommadations for me I'm finding a
wirlwind to speak to and at times quite intimadating.
I've a fair idea that the technical team, (who I'll be working with),
will
be fine once I'm in the position but the lady from
HR keeps stressing to me I've not been made a full offer. I've been made
an
offer on a conditional basis.
The condition being that they can see I can practically do the job.
I was just speaking to the lady from HR and she's quite annoyed and is
quite
forceful that I understand and that RNIB
understand that this is a conditional offer.
She's also quite annoyed at the length of time the whole process of
access
to work is taking. i explained to her I find this
too frustrating and unfortunately it's the way it goes and it's out of my
control to push it faster!
I thought telling her this would at least let her see it's not my doing,
but
she just sortive said, "Yeah ok but I'm still
pissed off", without actually saying that.
I just found this last thing inappropriate to complain to me about.
I don't feel comfortable talking to this lady and I don't want to hit
them
in the face with the DDA. This would be an
excellent company to work for and I'm afraid if I say anything to the
lady
I'm having problems with I'll rock the boat so to
speak.
RNIB are involved for the technical asessement and I've just got a phone
call from them wanting to arrange a time that they
can meet with people from the company and myself to do this asessement.
This might be what happens in the scary world of work for VI's but it's
bugging me.
I know I could be very hardline and contact the lady from HR and ask her
to
justify the conditional offer. I could ask her
if other candadates where offered a conditional offer and if they then
they
are discriminating against me.
I passed the interview with flying colours and correct me if I'm wrong
that
is what they should have been basing an offer on?
This lady I'm finding can be so forceful that you almost have to be rude
yourself to get a word in!
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Barry
