Additionally, are you sending attachments with the mail?
 
Hotmail has an upper limit on attachment size.  I'm not certain what it
is exactly but I think it is around 2MB.
 
Also, Hotmail will probably exclude attachments with certain extensions
such as .exe, .eml and .com.

I don't generally use hotmail but your friend could try adding you to a
white list or a friends list or whatever hotmail calls its list of
accepted email addresses that are not blocked.  Sorry to be a bit vague
on the terminology and hopefully someone out there can give you a better
answer.
