[bcab] Re: Off Topic? Inspiring films

Thanks to all those who have replied to this. I was going to just forward
the film suggestions - but I have decided to forward the texts of the emails
instead (names withheld).

Perhaps 'inspiring' was the wrong word to use. We are looking for movies
that have characters who may be disabled, but not that this is necessarily
the main focus of the movie (I did suggest 'Hannah and her sisters'). We
are trying to raise awareness within the company that there are colleagues
with different needs, and that they should think a little before lumping
them in with the stereotypes. Darren's comment about stereotypes in movies
is why I was not so keen on the idea, but will support any move that raises
the issue.

The interesting (and scary) thing is that many people say they have a disability
in an anonymous survey of the company, but only a few of these will record
this on their personal records. This is usually because they are afraid
that it will count against them in some way. The other goal for the company
disability forum is to convince everyone that registering a disability will
not prejudice your career. I only hope it can be true!

Thanks again. I'll let you know if anything interesting comes out of this
exercise.

Robyn
