[bcab] Norton problem

Hi Listers. Can anyone help?
On starting up my system, after Windows has launched, I'm getting two dialogue
boxes which I can't understand. The first says:
Please wait while Windows configures Norton 2006.
and the second says:
Norton 2006 does not support the repair feature. Uninstall and reinstall.
and there's an OK button. Clicking this produces an egg timer but there's no
hard disc activity and nothing happens.
I can get rid of this dialogue box but it reappears on launching MS Word and
Word has consequently become quite difficult to open.
I've carried out two full system scans in the last two days definitely with the
latest virus definition files from Symantec and no problem is reported.
What's going on?
