[bcab] Re: Non-Standard Tables in Microsoft Word

Hi Karina

Are you talking about the same application form you sent be last week.

I have checked it and it shows as a read only document but you can still
type into it. They seem like normal tables to me even though they have a Red
line around them. When you type into the narrow table and wrap to a second
line the bottom of the table extends taking the underline with it. As I said
before this leaves and untidy look and needs cleaning up, i.e. removing
extra underlines or spaces.

The tables have been set to a preferred width to make them all the same. It
is the usual way to make a table when it is being used as a form. I used a
similar method some years ago to make invoice, statements and quotation
forms.

They are not text boxes.

Hope this helps .

I don't use Jaws and my Zoomtext doesn't say if you are in a table. What
should Jaws do when in a table?

Kind regards

Charles Crisp

Subject: [bcab] Non-Standard Tables in Microsoft Word

Hi all,

I'm currently in the process of writing a letter to an organisation advising
them of how they can improve upon the accessibility of their documentation.
I have got to a point in which the organisation has used non-standard tables
as part of a Microsoft Word Document. I was therefore wondering, does the
use of non-standard tables automatically result in there being no clear
visual distinction between the cells of the table, or is the cell border
still adjustable as it is with a standard table? Also, does the use of a
non-standard table mean that a screen reader will not be able to pick up the
columns in the table?

Thanks in advance for your help, and I look forward to hearing from you as
soon as possible. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year.

Karina
