  In order to hear your digits being echoed back to you as you
  dial, you
  need Talks to be on either letters, or words and letters.  To do
  this,
  cycle between these options by pressing Talks key and number 1
  on your
  keypad.

  my N95 with Talks usually echoes back the digits as I'm dialling
