You might be able to get the shop to install talks for you and include it free as part of a deal, though you'll probably have to sign up to a contract for that.
I don't know about the phone but talks is very good and I personally haven't experienced problems with talks. I have had problems with my nokia 6600 because I've found it not very intuitive in terms of it's menus so you might have the same problem with the phone you're thinking of buying. Get the shop to spend time going over the functions of the phone with you.
