Would turning the screen right down satisfy you
enough? Someone else may have an opinion but it
should make it hard to read even for you if you
could see and would save you carrying a portable keyboard around.

Hi Isaac
I'm not yet a SpeakOn user, however, I'm very
interested in using my laptop with an external

ensure privacy and increase battery life while
working on trains etc. I've taken a look at the
settings but not yet found the magic
combination. Is this possible or will I need to
load SpeakOn first in order to achieve this goal?
Thanks

Subject: [bcab] Re: Advent4211, a question and some thoughts
Hello
I am using a very small (and expensive) laptop
for similar purposes for the last couple of
years. With the Advent 4211 in my opinion for
the first time it is possible to have a credible
low cost alternative to a note taker (if Braille
is not required) and a dedicated media players in one box.
The following complementary accessories and settings work for me:
- I find Earphones with integrated volume
control very useful - this control is located at
the joint between the two ear piece cables and it is tiny.
You can get the Sony brand from Argos in
different qualities - mine cost about £12.
- It is handy to have small USB speakers which
get their power from the USB connector. I use a
model similar to the Logitech V20 £32 and find
them very good for the price and size:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-970155-0914-V-20-laptop-speakers/dp/tech-da
types
I connect the laptop to the Stereo system
sometimes for really good sound quality.
The following applies to SpeakOn users:
Get yourself an external USB numeric Keypad - price range from £4 - £40..
These are the slimline variety used by
accountants with laptop for rapid number entries.

=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=5&ct=title
SpeakOn is designed to work (in addition to the
regular keyboard) with a numerical keypad - you
can find, retrieve and play all ten or so media
types that it supports with one hand from the
comfort of your armchair or in bed.
- Configure your laptop using the power
management option in the control panel to make
sure that your laptop does not shutdown when you close its lid
- the laptop can be tacked away while working
saving power as the screen is switched off.
- Configure the laptop to go to hibernation
(rather than switch off) with a single press on the power switch.
- If you hibernate the computer with SpeakOn's
Manager running when you switch on again it
should be ready to go - it does on both my laptops.
Regards
Isaac

First, the question: does anyone know if you can
disable the mouse, keep hitting it with my sleeve?
Now, a couple of thoughts. Not plugging this
particular machine, but, more the idea of the
mobile netbook. I really got this as a holiday
machine, mainly for a bit of surfing, e-mail and
media. I'm using speakOn for a lot of the media.
I paid about 200 pounds just over a year ago for
an Iaudio player and, given that this machine is
300, I wouldn't pay up for the Iaudio again.
I've stuck on microsoft office and given the
rest, this has been a real bargain.
Tom
