[bcab] Re: Netbooks

Hello Tim

This looks very interesting. It's not BlueTooth so needs transmitter and receiver plus charger, which is a shame. Real problem is price - costs about the same as the NetBook itself, which really rules it out. But thanks ever so much for the information.

Regards
Tony

Hi Tony,

Haven't been following this thread all that closely, but wonder are you aware of the Bard system from Sonneteer.

It's a transmitter which connects via usb, and sends audio to a little receiver connected to your amp.

You can find out more at
http://www.sonneteer.demon.co.uk/bard.htm

Reviews are very good, had considered going that way myself, but as my pc is beside my amplifier I chose the option of an external dac with good quality cables.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Tim.

Hello Roger

BlueTooth and Wi Fi both use radio waves, as does a cell phone, but
different frequency ranges. Practically, bluetooth has a very limited range of a couple of metres while WiFi seems to be about 10 metres and cell phones
lots!

My stereo is a bit ancient but lovely and I can listen to it for hours
without getting listener fatigue. Most of the bits were made before USB or WiFi. Trouble is, I can't afford to replace it with more modern kit of the
same quality (not even sure if you can still get Quad Electrostatics).

Regards
Tony

Hi Tony,

I may have misunderstood your question. I'm not sure about your stereo,
but
if it is blue tooth then I guess it could stream ok. This is only a
guess.
General WI FI stuff seems easier to use nowadays and I now connect my cell phone to the pc via wi fi which for some reason works differently to blue
tooth but I don't really understand it. As far as I can work out, wifi
and
blue tooth are different. This isn't a fact, but my experience suggests
that it is.

Roger
