[bcab] Re: Netbooks

Hi Tony,

> Practically, bluetooth has a very limited range of a couple of
metres (snip)

I hate to contradict, but at
http://www.mobileinfo.com/Bluetooth/FAQ.htm#g1 is an interesting FAQ,
where it confirms what my understanding is of the range.

Q: What is Bluetooth?
A: Bluetooth is the name for a short-range radio frequency (RF)
technology that operates at 2.4 GHz and is capable of transmitting
voice and data. The effective range of Bluetooth devices is 32 feet
(10 meters). Bluetooth transfers data at the rate of 1 Mbps, which is
from three to eight times the average speed of parallel and serial
ports, respectively.

George.

Hello Roger

BlueTooth and Wi Fi both use radio waves, as does a cell phone, but
different frequency ranges. Practically, bluetooth has a very limited
range
of a couple of metres while WiFi seems to be about 10 metres and cell
phones
lots!

My stereo is a bit ancient but lovely and I can listen to it for hours
without getting listener fatigue. Most of the bits were made before
USB or
WiFi. Trouble is, I can't afford to replace it with more modern kit of
the
same quality (not even sure if you can still get Quad Electrostatics).

Regards
Tony
