You mention a lot of cd ripping programmes can you tell me where i can cdx from or any of the others i use xp and Hal v9 any ideas would be much appreciated.

It may be possible to rip CDs in some versions of Nero but I think you will 
be better supported using a proper CD ripping program. There are a lot of
free options. I use CDEX and the main program is completely accessible and
easy to use once set up. There are lots of audio Tutorials on CDEX which
will help you get started as well.  I would have a look at the Jaws User
program page and then the audio tutorial page on the same site.

It was already on the PC; the person who gave me the pc had already put it
on there. Whether it's what I want I don't know, as I don't want to burn CDs 

so much as to rip CDs to hard drive.
