[bcab] Re: NOTEPAD

Wendy, you might also like to try Jarte instead of Notepad. It's like a glorified Wordpad, and can even detect that you have a screen reader. It has less limitations than Notepad.

Wendy,

I remember having similar problems with notepad in earlier versions of
JAWS. Have you tried maximising the Notepad window? Could you use Word
instead of Notepad? You could still cut and paste the text into your
mail message when you're ready to send it. Incidentally, I hadn't
realised until recently that if you cut and paste from a Notepad window,
the text you copy is influenced by whether or not you have Wordwrap
switched on in the Notepad application. You appear to get better
results if you switch Wordwrap off prior to copying the text.

Subject: [bcab] NOTEPAD

Recently I was writing some text which I want to include in
an e-mail next month, so I decided to use Notepad. When I
tried to read the whole file back using JAWS 6, I discovered
that the first line was read over and over again, and I had
to read using the cursor keys instead of the say all command.

Examining the file more closely, I found that at the
beginning of each line there must be some kind of sign. JAWS
just says blank, and before that is the last space on the
previous line.

I have also found that magazines sent by RNIB on e-mail,
which can be opened as text files using Notepad, often have
the same problem. You suddenly hear a line being repeated,
and you have to cursor down to get any further.

Can anyone tell me what Notepad does to a file to create
these blanks. I can't find anything in its limited menus to
turn this feature off, and it is very annoying. Is there any
way of stripping the blanks out so that text can be read in
its entirety?

Wendy
