[bcab] Re: More on Netbooks

which model of EEEPC did you look at? There is the 900 range or the 1000
range. either should do the job. look out for netbook PcS with an Intel Atom
N270 processor, 1 GB of RAM and Windows XP.

The 3 most popular are Samsung NC10, best at the moment over all I would say,
the Asus EEePC 1000 and the various computers available that are copies of the
MSI Wind including the Advent 4211 and Advent 4211C

There are also machines from Dell, the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and the rather
expensive mini 12.

Personally I would advise people to concentrate on the Asus 900 series if you
don't mind a slightly smaller keyboard or the Samsung NC10 if you want the
easiest to use. The Advent 4211C at £279.00 is probably the best to go for if
you are a bit strapped for cash.

As another pointer, you say you would like a camera and web cam. I think the
Samsung NC10 has the best mike but don't know what it's camera is like.

  Subject: [bcab] More on Netbooks

  Hi All,

I had never heard the term NETBOOK until this thread started.

I'm looking to buy just such an item over the next couple of weeks but am
sick to death of getting an idea to find out everything I've found out is wrong.

I'm looking for a lightweight device with a few or more hours use and 3 USB
ports that I can hook up my external drive, a DVD reader writer and a dongle at
the same time. I'd rather have a faster processor than a 3 legged dog of a
machine. Hard drive is not important so long as it can take Jaws, MSN, Outlook
express, office 2003 and a few minor applications.

Built in microphone/webcam would be helpful though not essential, WIFI is an
absolute.

Now I was looking at the ASUS eepc a few months ago and on this list found
out that Jaws didn't work with them because they have such tiny memory.
Following the netbook thread, this would seem to have been changed somewhere as
a few have pointed at various models of the ASUS eeepc being suitable for Jaws
as far as I can make out.

As a note, the ASUS had a keyboard which was excellent for my hand size.

So if anyone can say with any conviction, which machin or machines, may have
the capability to fill all the above criteria, please could you let me know
which one or ones fit the bill.

Price is not the most important factor as suitability comes before all else.

  Many thanks.

  Roger
