Well Steve, as you've said yourself, people are told all sorts of things
when they contact Vodafone.  The same is true of all the networks
unfortunately.  You may well be known to T-Mobile, but the person I got
didn't know you? (smile).  Nor did they know about Talks for that
matter.

I don't dispute  that for a single minute.  As I posted, there are
varying stories when customers make enquiries about Talks, and the
version they receive hasn't been the latest either.  But I personally
have had good service from them, so maybe I have just been lucky! I've
challenged all the other networks, and none of them know what Talks even
is!

As a Talks reseller, I have discovered they really don't know what newer
phones Talks supports though.

People have been told by Voda that the N96 for example, and the N85 are
not supported.  They are, of course, but Voda are not keeping up.

Hi Tim

In catching up with Emails, I don't know whether this info is any longer
applicable.  Basically, they do offer Talks Standard free of charge.  I
was in a Vodafone store the other day, and the chap I spoke to said they
still offer this service.  If you buy a Pay-As-You-Talk phone with them
though, I think the availability of Talks appears to be dependent upon
the handset you choose on that tariff.  If, however, you take out any
contract phone, then you are offered Talks Standard automatically if
that phone works with Talks.  That's my understanding, but you could try
Customer Services, and see which story you get as it differs so greatly.

With many thanks to Steve for his info, and without ignoring his input,
I'm still looking for the various alternative options.
 
Can anyone tell me where to start if I wish to enquire with Vodafone as
to whether its still possible to obtain a free screen reader with their
phones?  Does anyone know if this offer is still available?  I remember
it used to be very dependent on whether you spoke to the right person in
Vodafone.
