The best advice is wait for it to pop up on Windows Update, that way
some of the issues you mention will have been addressed, Windows Update
will check whether you are one of the users affected by the missing or
incompatible drivers and only roll it out to those who should be able to
install without a problem.
Anything that has taken more than five years to emerge since XP is
almost bound to be a dissappointment when it comes. There were meany
tears over XP as well, and although some of the problems are a bit
larger this time around what is not been so well reported is that things
are slowly being fixed along the way. VISTA and Microsoft collectively
seem to have such bad Karma at the moment that many people are trying to
stick with what they know. Microsoft themselves have generally
concieved of VISTA as a transitional thing, although I don't think they
barginaed on it being regarded by Joe public as quite as transitional to
the extent people are now waiting for the next Windows along. At the
very least that is probably 18 months away and many of the same driver
issues are going to crop up because if developers don't wade through
VISTA they will stilll have a hard time with what comes after. In fact
we are probably in for another very painful transition into 64bit
Windows in the next three years and VISTA will be absolutely nothing
compared to that!

Hi Barry and all.
I can't point you to exact articles at the moment but I understand that
Microsoft has issued Vista SP1 to manufacturers but not made it
available as
a general download at the moment due to problems relating to
compatibility
with drivers produced by some manufacturers. This Vista thing is
becoming a
real joke. they have been working on it for years and it seems there
are as
many problems as there were with XP if not more. I think I will be
sticking
with XP on my primary work PC at least for the next 6 months or so
anyway!
Cheers
graham

It'll be rolled out on Automatic Updates next month but you can get it
from Downloads on MS's site.
