Hi Karina.
Microsoft Works is a program that combines a basic wordprocessor, spreadsheet
and a database but it is not very accessible. You could safely uninstall it if
you wish. Either way you should be able to install Microsoft Office without
problems. Microsoft Office 2000 or later works with Windows XP, though later
versions of JAWS and window-eyes give better access to many parts of Office
2003 if you have this available.
If you do not have Microsoft Office and only really need Word then you should
consider Microsoft Works Suite. This is, rather confusingly, different to
Microsoft Works.
Works Suite includes a full version of Microsoft word 2002 as well as other
programs such as Encarta, Microsoft Money and Autoroute. As far as I know,
these 3 programs are pretty much inaccessible but Works Suite is generally
available for less than £60.
Regards
graham

Hi Karina,
If you have Microsoft Office, then I would advise not instaalling Works, and
just installing Office, since Works is a cut-down version of it.
All the best

Subject: [bcab] Microsoft Office and Works
Hi all,
Please can someone tell me the difference between Microsoft Office and
Microsoft Works? I've recently had a new computer that has got Microsoft Works
installed on it and I can find an application that is similar to PowerPoint
but nothing else to do with Office. I've been snt a disk with the computer
that is labelled Microsoft Works but I'm not sure if I need to install it or if
I need to install Microsoft Office as well as Microsoft Works. Please can
someone advise me?
Thanks.
Karina
