[bcab] Re: Messages Rules in Outlook Express

I have downloaded Spamfighter today and it has started to work for me. Some e-mails have ended up in the Spamfighter folder but I need to check the settings menu and also read the tutorial.

My wife uses it an says the following.

Spamfighter is free for private users and schools.
It creates a folder in your mailbox list and automatically puts all the 
email rubbish in it.
You can read down the spam before you empty the folder if you want but I 
have never found anything there which isn't spam.
If an obvious spam message gets through you can have it officially blacklisted by clicking the option in the dropdown list which it has added to your toolbar, but I haven't had to use that option very much. 

There is also a more sophisticated pay version.

Francis, I've been happy with SpamBrave Lite, which as the name suggests is the free version of a fuller program. It works on statistical likelkihood, which is a lot more effective than using message rules. There's 
nothing to stop you using both, of course.

What about if I use a series of words to block out some of
the most frequest spam mail I get, i.e. gift center, shopping center, shopping card, confirmation department, etc. but instead of the comma, use the word "or". These days I am being offered free laptops, $500 gift cards, coffee, detergents and almost everything under the sun. It is annoying and 
I have to do something.

Any suggestions about spam filters?

The spam mail you are getting is actually not easy
to filter.



Idiot spammers these days are using multiple
addresses, and so simply blocking a sender is as about as much use as a 
chocolate teaspoon.



Microsoft's Outlook spam filer is pretty good, but
that struggles. Even the "paid for" spam filters are fighting a loosing 
battle at times.



Best course at the moment is to keep whatever spam
protection you have as up to date as possible.



You may also want to consider setting up an e-mail
address which you absolutely never, ever quote on your web page. At least that help to reduce the risk from robot web scanners looking for e-mail 
addresses.

I have located the two volumes of the tutorial and
can read the table of contents. However, the instructions to locate the sections - 8.22 - do not seem to be working for me as the JAWS find facility 
is telling me that no such string occurs.

Since around the beginning of
December, 2006 I have been receiving a lot of E-mails asking me to respond 
to gift cards and a host of other things and I
feel that if I can use the message
rules in Outlook Express correctly I can eliminate almost all the spam by 
using specific words which, when appearing

believe deals with this in Outlook Express and am

good idea as if I block the website
