[bcab] Re: Marantz Flash Card Recorders for Talking Newspapers

Marantz Flash Card Recorders for Talking NewspapersHi Tim. I have a Marantz
PMD 660 and my firm advice would be to steer clear. It's fine as a recorder in
itself but you would not call it accessible. Ditto the 670 though I've less
experience with this unit. My firm understanding from mates is that there are
now several units of alternative makes which are much more usable if you can't
see such as the model Steve mentions.

  Hi All,

Our local TN is once again looking to purchase a new "roving recorder". We
never managed to convince our magazine edeitor (who also records most of the
interviews) to move to minidisk from cassette, but since the recorder she uses
is now seriously long in the tooth and not working very well, we've been
looking at current options.

Of these, we identified the Marantz PMD 660 or 670 as possible candidates,
but are unable to get access to one to try it out and more importantly to show
it to our editor to see if she likes it.

Does anyone have any experience of these machines which would allow them to
give me an idea of their relative merits. It would be nice if the "successful
candidate" were accessible to me (totally blind), as well as to our editor,
(sighted but not "technically adventurous"), however, this could be based on a
hopefully one-off configuration by sighted technophiles on the committee.

Regards and thanks for any info.
