[bcab] Re: Juiced out.

Thanks Steve

I leave on the limit from the telephone exchange for broadband so 0.5Mbps is
unfortunately the limit, This may be the problem for me in leaving the
podcatcher running all the time.

I know a number of people without this limitation who suppose to get very
high broadband speed but in reality the performance is not very good
especially for streamming. The ISP companies are happy to quote the speed
but contention ratio is high especially for some of the cheap offers
degrading performance for private lines especially during weekends.

Isaac

Hi Isaac,

I don't have this problem at all. I don't even know that Juice is running,
and I use Nebula TV to stream over my home network, as well as downloading
programs, so it sounds like your broadband may not be optimized. You can
check things like the MTU, Maximum Transmission Unit, in the registry, and
the RWIN buffer size, and all geeky things like that. But if you know what
you are doing, you can really make things shift.

All the best

Steve

Hello

I find that when Juice (or any other catcher) starts to download my internet
connection performance drops and streaming for example does not work
reliably.
So I prefer to tell it manually to catch when I know that I am not going to
use the internet and my computer for a while. The scheduler is only useful
if you can predict your work pattern.

In juice, you can set the number of simultaneous downloads in the
preferences - by default set to four, this should reduced bandwidth demand
on the internet by making downloading slower.

Regards
Isaac
