Not sure if there is a way of being alerted to JAWS updates, but you can
certainly go to JAWS help and search for updates which is quick and easy.

Hi Mel,
I have also found JAWS 9 to be a bit of a step back in some respects,
though as always, there are also some improvements. I've found that the
stability, and its support of Word has improved with recent patch
updates. The latest is version 9.0.552. So if you installed yours from
the distribution CD, its worth checking which version you have, and if
necessary updating.
I don't have any experience of the application you mention, but it would
be worth going back to the supplier/manufacturer and asking them to
justify their claims of accessibility. I've certainly found in a couple
of cases, that things which work in JAWS 8, were broken in JAWS 9, so it
may be that they genuinely did get it working with an earlier version.
Alternatively, they may have some scripts which make things easier.
