[bcab] Re: I've lost my desktop icon for Internet explorer, how can I retrieve it please

Hi,

I know that in XP, Internet Explorer is not like most other icons. Along
with My Computer, My Documents and Recycle Bin, you cannot just delete them.
You have to go into Desktop Properties (by right-clicking on a blank area of
desktop), selecting the Desktop tab (ctrl+tab), then Customize Desktop....
In there, you can check/uncheck various boxes, including Internet Explorer.
This certainly works for IE6.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your reply, but it looks as if the problem is
worse than I thought, because if I press my windows key and
cursor down to programs on the menu which appears and then
try to cursor to Internet explorer, it seems as if Internet
explorer is not showing on the programs menu even though it
shows up when I look in c:\Program Files.

The computer I'm using is only used by me, but also has an
administrator account, could I copy the Internet explorer
icon from administrator\start Menu\programs\Internet
explorer or will I have to reinstall Internet Explorer in my
own user Account which is know as Alex in order to get it
showing as a program on start\Programs within the Alex user
account?

Please note this is on a machine running XP Pro if that
makes a difference.

Thank you in advance for any further advice.

Alexander Shannon
