I haven't tried it myself, but the DigiScribble claims to be able to
cope with map drawings. I'm guessing it would be able to cope with flow
diagrams too. I suspect that the result would only be available in
graphical
form once uploaded though, so there would be accessibility limitations at
that point for some.

I'd be interested to know how it coped with flow diagrams and the like,
i.e.
could you draw a diagram on melonex or some such substance, and upload it.
This would be brilliant! I'm investigating now.

Subject: [bcab] Interesting writing gadget.
Evening,
I was given an interesting gadget for Christmas and wanted to share
some early impressions with the list. It's an Apcom DigiScribble.
The device is essentially a pen. It can be used with an ink point,
which writes like a biro, or with a stylus point, which leaves no mark on
the page. The pen is wirelessly linked to a small base station, about the
size of a chunky pack of gum.
The base station is placed at the top of the page and it captures
your handwriting as you write. The base station can then be connected to
your computer via USB, where it is possible to upload your notes.
From there, some reasonably accessible software grabs your notes and
displays them in graphical format. The DigiScribble though, unlike many
other similar devices, has a feature which allows you to translate your
notes into text format.
The hand writing recognition is excellent. Right from the outset, it
correctly identified my very unpractised script. In fact, the recognition
is
so accurate it actually presents something of a problem.
The base station very precisely determines the difference between
one line of text and the one below it. If like me, you find it impossible
to
write in a straight line, the DigiScribble tends to garble the flow of
words
as it thinks you're writing over the top of previous lines.
I've just ordered some A4 paper with raised lines from the RNIB
shop. All things being equal, I think this will solve the problem
perfectly.
I'm using the stylus point, so anticipate that one pad should last me
quite
some while! I'll post more when my paper turns up and I can give it a
try.
The DigiScribble is a very small, easy to use, accessible and useful
device. From my point of view, I hope it will enable me to go into a
meeting
with nothing more obtrusive than a normal looking pen and a base station
the
size of a ciggarette lighter. With any luck, I'll be able to take notes,
store them in the pen and then return to my desk and upload them to my
computer. From there, it should be easy to paste my notes into a report
or
more permenant file.
