[bcab] Re: Holodeck

There is actually a real visor called the Jordy for people with very low
vision. However it's an
autofocussing double bioptic lens with up to 50x magnification & electronic
screens, costing about
£2500. It's about 6 times as bulky as the one on Star Trek and the control box
on a wire is pretty
hefty additional lump to carry too. Still similar in it's way though... One
person's request for a
point & shoot camera with smart OCR built in, sounds very much like the K-NFB
reader, an actual
product.

Mobile phones of course, are very much like the Star Trek communicators, I bet
there are even a few
geeks out there with real star trek sounds for their ring tones, etc.

We haven't got phasers but there are certainly Tasers. In the US once, a 73
year old blind woman
was zapped with one.

Molecular transporters could have a devastating effect on the travel industry,
not to mention crime
rates! But they could certainly overcome travel accessibility obstacles.
Guide dogs may need some
additional training to get used to "beaming".

Lastly, holodecks, visors, phasers and transporters aside, if we had
replicators we could set them
up in the third world, and put an end to starvation. Naturally of course they
should be able to
talk like some microwaves can.

Over and out.

Leon

I can't believe nobody mentioned a viser like Jordy has.

If we're going to regain sight or gain it as the case may be, let's, get,
serious! Mooooooooowhahahaha!
