Thanks for that Phil. I left it for a while then
tried again. In that time I'd also noticed that I wasn't actually signed
into Google. I signed in and all was fine. So, whether it was the
wait, or the sign in, I'm not entirely sure, but all is now
OK.

I got this message once. It was a couple of months ago but nothing since.
I think that Google checks for search constructs which are close to patterns used by virus or malware designed to break security. When such a pattern is entered, Google blocks the search in order to retain security of their system and avoid returning you unsafe information.
