Dear All
Sorry this is a little off topic, but to most of us it is important that we
petition for this not to happen especially as DAB isn't all it is cracked up
to be in fact in surrey where i live i find only a handful of stations yet t
he Sanas tells me there are 51 well half of them aren't on air so if this
happens Ito am/FM this will be dreadful ofr all of us who love radio and who
listen avidly.
All for now
from
jane

the proposed Analog Radio Switch-Off. | Number10.gov.uk
Dear all,
David Wood has brought this petition to my attention.
The proposal to turn off AM/FM transmissions implies a very highlu limited
future.
This will of course not necessarily mean that overseas transmitters will
be
switched off.
This control freak government will if they survive long enough render
millions of radio sets obsolete and also probably mean that car owners
will
notbe able to use their in-car radios.
My personal view is that every citizen should express their opposition to
this proposal. Digital radio (DAB) reception is very poor here. The ultra
high frequencies reduce sensitivity to near "line of sight" A tree in the
way or a metal fece will totally block reception from about a mile or more
away.
Planes landing or leaving Heathrow 5 miles away also destroy television
reception.I suspect that the government are seeking to get a once and for
all pot of cash from telephone companies.Do we need more pones or
broadband
links for pay to watch old films on television?
The Moderator.

John - for your interest and action if so desired.
Maybe put it on the Surrey View list if you think it to be appropriate?
All the best

The proposed analog radio switch off disadvantages everyone. It forces you
to scrap all your existing radios - and buy DAB sets instead. Car radios,
kitchen radios, bedside radios, stereo tuners, all become scrap. And the
liberated bandwidth is used for extra services no-one wants - witness the
DAB station failures - polluted with advertising, and never again the
chance
to hear a foreign station by accident. This is not a future I want.
If you agree or are interested please check out the above.
