Subject: Free talking blood glucose meters

Hi all,

picked this up from a Kent Association of the Blind forum list, and thought it
may be of value to
some of you.

Please see below a copy of an e-mail I have received:- "I have been contacted
by Penny McCormick of
BBI Healthcare who informs me that they are delighted to be able to offer FREE
SensoCard Plus
talking glucose meters to diabetes patients in the UK.

The SensoCard Plus is the UK's only talking glucose meter (and currently
available from Cobolt
Systems at £69.95 and RNIB at £49.99) It is now available FREE of charge
through BBI Healthcare.
This is the first time a talking meter has been given out free of charge With
visually impaired
patients largely bypassed in terms of financial support, they are very keen to
pass on this
information to the 400,000 visually impaired diabetes patients in the UK. They
are delighted to be
able to offer the meter free of charge and hope the meters will go someway to
helping relieving the
financial burden, and will encourage more regular testing for patients with
diabetes who are
visually impaired.

To receive a free meter, the patient's healthcare advisor should first contact
BBI Healthcare to
request a 'Free Meter Voucher'. Once the voucher has been filled in correctly
and returned to BBI
Healthcare, a SensoCard Plus meter kit will be sent out completely free of
charge. Test strips are
available on prescription from the patient's healthcare advisor.

BBI Healthcare is keen to pass on this information to people with visual
impairments who may benefit
from using a glucose meter with a speaking function so please use your
newsletters and word of mouth
to let clients, colleagues and diabetes advisors know about the free meters.

The meter has been made available free of charge so that it is in line with
other 'non-talking'
meters that are available in the market place. The meters are being given out
at no expense to the
NHS.

If you would like further information on the SensoCard Plus talking meter,
please contact BBI
Healthcare on 01792 229333 or email info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Thanks, Sue Sue
