Support for Wayfinder Access and new Braille features

Code Factory releases Version 3.25 of Mobile Speak for Symbian Phones, providing unequalled compatibility with Wayfinder Access, a GPS solution designed to work with screen readers, as well as
exciting enhancements to Braille support.

Terrassa, Barcelona, August 14th 2007

Mobile Speak for Symbian Phones v3.25, a free update available for download from
http://www.codefactory.es/mobile_speak/ms_downloads.htm,
brings unparalleled speech and Braille support for the Wayfinder Access GPS navigation application. Further, Mobile Speak’s already excellent Braille interface has been improved by the addition of many innovations never before seen in Braille access to mobile phones. Some of the most exciting and unique features for Braille users are: support for an unrivaled number of braille input and output devices, support for contracted, uncontracted, and computer input and output in Braille, and a
review cursor for Braille, allowing unbounded access to the screen.

Mobile Speak for Symbian Phones is a full-fledged screen reader that converts the visual information on a mobile phone’s display into speech and/or Braille output in order to make the mobile phone
accessible to the blind and visually impaired.

“With the combination of Mobile Speak and Wayfinder Access, we’re able to provide an excellent navigation solution that is accessible to anyone,” explains Greg Gladman, Code Factory Chief Technical Officer. “Our goal was to combine the great functionality of Wayfinder’s navigation software with the accessibility and ease-of-use of Mobile Speak. Based on the enthusiastic customer response since our initial product launch, we’ve certainly succeeded in doing that.”

Highlights of Wayfinder Access include, among other things:

- Information provided for both pedestrian and vehicular navigation.
- A database of 20 million points of interest.
- Online maps that are regularly updated.
- The "Where am I?" feature that readily gives information about your current location. - The "What is in my surrounding?" feature that initiates a scan of the immediate area to inform you of street names, intersections and nearby points of interest such as restaurants, banks,
and much more.
- The new “Vicinity View” feature that allows you to hear audible references for an area with a scope that you can later adjust based on the radius of the scanned vicinity. - Feedback on points of Interest (POI), crossings or favorites that can be restricted,
prioritized, and presented according to their distance from your location.

Moreover, only Mobile Speak users enjoy Braille input and output in their preferred grade of
contracted, uncontracted, or computer Braille when using Wayfinder Access.

“Our customers have commended us for our commitment to integrate Braille support with all our products, and knowing the importance of a complete solution for the blind and visually impaired, we always ensure Braille access works just as well as speech output. This makes our screen readers the best choice for Braille users and those who are deafblind,” says Eduard Sánchez Palazón, Code
Factory CEO.

The following new Braille features, which are unique to Mobile Speak on the Symbian platform, have
been added in version 3.25 of Mobile Speak:

- Support for the Esys12 and Esys40 from Eurobraille.
- Support for the ALVA BC640 from Optelec Tieman Group.
- Support for the Braillino, BrailleStar, BrailleWave, and EasyBraille from Handy Tech. - Ability to pair two or more Braille devices, and to easily switch between them. - Input and output in 6-dot and 8-dot computer Braille, uncontracted (grade 1) Braille, and
contracted (grade 2) Braille.
- Braille translation tables for US and UK English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French,
Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Greek, Welsh and Hindi.
- A Braille review cursor that can move to areas of the screen to which system focus cannot
move (e.g., window title, status icons, and softkeys).
- Ability to route system focus to the location of the Braille cursor using cursor-routing
buttons or the Select/Enter key.
- Control summary available when exploring with the Braille cursor that gives the number of items in a list/grid, of lines in an editor, and the current location of the system focus if it is
on the control being examined.
- Automatic enabling of Bluetooth when establishing a Braille connection. - Option to toggle Bluetooth off automatically when Braille is disabled. - Option to make the whole Braille line pan or just a few characters, when entering text and
reaching the end of the display.
- Option to suppress capital signs.
- Locale-dependent Braille indicators for control type and state, as well as the location of
system focus.
- A comprehensive list of commands available on all supported Braille devices.

Code Factory also added new "number processing" options, which control the way numbers are spoken. Many users, partners, and distributors have requested this option. Mobile Speak can now read a series of numbers one by one, which is the default setting, two by two, three by three, or even let the TTS (Text-to-Speech) decide. This feature will be useful in many ways. For example, users may well be able to remember a phone number more easily if Mobile Speak reads the numbers two by two
instead of one by one.

New users are invited to download version 3.25 and evaluate it with a free 30-day trial license to discover how Mobile Speak for Symbian Phones can convert an off-the-shelf mobile phone into an essential communications tool and navigation aid, easily accessible through speech and Braille. Users of previous versions of Mobile Speak for Symbian Phones are also welcomed to install this free update and benefit from the latest features of a product that just keeps on getting better.
