I think yo have just highlighted a problem that i have been experiencing thanks very much i will get the RNIB block to look at it sam ahsn't been working with Hal on my system for weeks if not months i use Daniel with Hal v9 and am experiencing all sorts of problems the main one being that Hal stops talking half way through e mails which is a headache downloaded patch and that hasn't done much at all this is an intermittant problem any thought woudl be appreciated.

I'm not sure why though, Hal treats all synths the same, I guess its
something in the sam to sapi driver. Not good though.

I'm afraid you are right. Hal is absolutely abysmal with SAPI 5 voices.
The
other screen readers cope OK, but Hal gets most upset, and is not very
responsive either.

Hi Jane.

For some reason the couple of systems I've tried the more natural
sounding voices on hal does seem to be a bit sluggish and you sometimes
get the odd strangeness in the speech. To see if this is your problem
try switching to Orpheus or the eloquence sounding one.

I am experiencing the same as Elenor or similar using hal v9.03 my
machine
locks up and i can't type anything and it doesn't speak i use a real
speak
voice called Daniel do you think that this is the cause of the problems?

also my computer has been stuttering and not all words are being spoken.

Did you try the suggestions below? Did they make a difference?
I know I've seen some strange behaviour if I'm using some of the real
speak voices or SAPI. Do you get the same results if you use Orpheus?

A couple of things to try.
1. Does it make a difference if you maximise the new mail window?
2. does it happen if you use a different speech synthesiser?
3. do you get any sort of errors displayed on screen?
4. is anything else running at the same time?

Nick I reproduce it simply by sitting writing my e-mails and it
happens
several times a day if I spend a long time writing e-mails it will
happen.

I use supernova 10.3. I've got it on two machines here, one dell
d610
laptop and a Dell work station, don't know the number.
I've not seen the issue you have. I don't use outlook express
though,
I
use outlook 2003.

As you know, there are a couple of issues with version 10.
Is the crash reproducible, as in are there ways you can make it
happen?

I have Supernova 10.3.  My computer keeps freezing in Outlook
Express.
After hours on the phone with Dolphin Tech Support I agreed with
them
to
send in the computer for testing on site.  It will be 2 weeks
tomorrow
and it would appear the problem has not been resolved.  In that must
be
a lot of testing or is it just sitting there I wonder.  Nobody
available
to speak to me today from Dolphin.  All busy with Sight Village I
believe.  In the meantime I am using my NC10 with Supernova 10.3.  I
have the same problem in Outlook Express.  Supernova speech (not the
magnification) crashes.  I then find myself having to load Jaws to
continue what I am doing.  I have informed Dolphin that I have the
same
problem on the netbook but they have made no effort to assist
resolve
it
on the netbook.  Is anyone else using Supernova 10.3?  Are you
having
any problems like mine?  How are you resolving them?
