Andrew and Nick thank you very much for your interesting feedback!!:-)

be very happy!
Thank you,
Genovefa

Hi Genovefa.
In terms of coding the only real problem I have is with verifying my
screen layouts. When you develop a GUI a sighted developer normally uses
some sort of wysiwyg type drag and drop tool. Anything you do with this
tool can normally be done with actual code which is how I do it but then
the fun part is actually matching up what's in my head to what I think
I've just done on the screen. This can only really be sorted by
experience. When I started coding 8 or 9 years ago I wasn't great at
this, now I'm OK.
But as I'm sure you know there's more to being a software engineer than
coding. One of the more challenging things for a blind software engineer
is the move towards modelling techniques like UML. Luckily I've found a
tool which enables me to create these models and view models that the
guys I work with have created however, if I'm being honest simply
because a sighted person can take these diagrams in with a 30 second
look I am a little slower to do this as I have to build a picture up in
my head of the model.
Most other things I do in exactly the same way as my sighted peers.
Cheers.
Nick.

Subject: [bcab] Feedback needed for my visually impaired project please
Hello all,
My name is Genovefa Kefalidou and I'm an MRes student in Design and
Evaluation of Advanced Interactive Systems course (Computing and
Psychology Departments) at Lancaster University.
I'm currently working on my MRes project, which is related to designing
interfaces for visually impaired people. The reason for becoming member
of the BCBA mailing list is because I want to research in the area of
programming interfaces for visually impaired programmers.
The nature of my project is highly exploratory and the main focus is on
what kind of challenges (any challenges) visually impaired programmers
face when they implement code. I'm particularly interested on what kind
of issues visually impaired people consider challenging when they
interact with a programming interface.
The time limit of the project is quite constrained and the scope of it
is to identify key issues related to programming interface interaction
by visually impaired programmers. The identification of such key issues
could be extremely valuable in informing a better design of such
programming interfaces.
So, I would be extremely grateful if you could help me in this attempt
by giving me some feedback on what challenges and difficulties you find
while performing programming tasks. I'm not focusing on any specific
group of programming tasks or interfaces, so anything that comes into
your mind that you find challenging when programming will be very much
appreciated.
Finally, I would like to ask you if you could be available in case I
needed to send a questionnaire to fill in so as to get additional
information about the field.
Many thanks in advance,
Genovefa
