I know the answer to my own question now! you just tap and let it go and it
activates as caps lock. If you hold it down it becomes a modifier key.
This is pretty good though you need to watch you don't activate caps lock by
accident.

On the other hand, if the laptop keyboard is selected in JAWS you may have
people wanting to know how to activate caps lock as they may not think of
tapping it twice. This could generate extra technical support calls.

Hi Dave.

I'm not sure what the problem is,
On a standard keyboard it's simple, I'm a touch typer and to do the caps
lock E key on my left hand I move my little finger one key to the left, this
is caps lock, and hit the E key with my long finger, no need to move the
hands off the keyboard at all.

Even when not touch typing I can quite easily do it with one hand.

Cheers.
Nick.

Hi, well, as far as I'm concerned, my personal view is that most things are
better than the contortions required for caps lock E for instance.I've no
idea how one can do that one handed, it certainly isn't quick or easy!

Cheers
Dave

Yes, exactly. It's a personal choice. There's really no right way or
wrong way, just a preferred way.

Hi Leonie,

Basically, you can't. If you want to deploy a quick nav key, you up or
down
arrow out of the edit box then hit the quick nav key. I personally like
this bettter than having to press enter to get into forms/browse mode.

All the best

Steve

Does System Access use quick nav keys, such as Jaws does? If so,
what happens when you're focused on an edit box and want to deploy a quick
nav key, rather than type?

Léonie.

Hi Leonie,

I disagree. The way System Access does this is that you are never really
out of virtual mode, and that is what makes it good. So if you are in an
edit box, you can just type, or if you move the cursoring keys, you are
browsing a virtual buffer. Kind of best of both worlds. There is no
difference between forms mode and interactive mode for System Access.

All the best

Steve

The concept of automatically entering forms mode, or whatever the
appropriate terminology is, is a moot point. Having to actively enter and
exit this mode can be troublesome, but equally, it can also be troublesome
to suddenly find yourself in forms mode when you want to use a quick nav
key. In terms of user experience, there isn't really anything in it, just
personal preference.

Regards,
Léonie.
