Hi Steve,
Sounds like something in the Startup group is hogging the
system. Are you able to get any of your I.T. guys to help
by disabling all startup items, and then re-introducing them
one by one to see which of causing the problem?
The other thing which the IT guys can do is a Bootlogged
startup. This creates a bootlog text file which can be
studied for errors.
George.

Subject: [bcab] Dodgy startup on laptop
Hi folks
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop at home, running
Windows XP, AVG,
Jaws (can't remember which version). When I switch the
machine on it
fires up, the windows music chimes in and then it sits
there, apparently
doing very little. There is no harddrive noise, only the
fan whirring,
no egg timer going, just a blank screen. This lasts about
three minutes
and then it bursts in to action and the desktop appears.
There is no modem connected at this stage, I can't fire up
the modem
until the desktop appears, so there's no avg update going
on, nor any
other update for that matter.
So, does anyone have any idea why it takes so long to do
this?
Any suggestions and repairs gratefully received.
Steve
