[bcab] Re: Dodgy startup on laptop

Steve

Has this just started to happen?

Start up times can vary depending on how many programmes are opening on
start up.

Do you have many programmes installed with icons showing?

Kind regards

Subject: [bcab] Dodgy startup on laptop

Hi folks

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop at home, running Windows XP, AVG,
Jaws (can't remember which version). When I switch the machine on it
fires up, the windows music chimes in and then it sits there, apparently
doing very little. There is no harddrive noise, only the fan whirring,
no egg timer going, just a blank screen. This lasts about three minutes
and then it bursts in to action and the desktop appears.

There is no modem connected at this stage, I can't fire up the modem
until the desktop appears, so there's no avg update going on, nor any
other update for that matter.

So, does anyone have any idea why it takes so long to do this?

Any suggestions and repairs gratefully received.

Steve
