It is probably easier to download audacity to do this. Firstly, it is free.
Secondly, it is reasonably accessible. As to marking tracks, you can do this
with audacity, but it would need to be done manually, i.e. scrape through
the recording until you hear a page number, then insert a mark. As Tristram
says, cabling shoudn't be a problem.

(1) my soundcard is either an onboard, or I have a simple
in/out USB sound card with mini jack sockets.
A: No problem, suitable leads are relatively easy to find once you know
what hookup you require. If you had a hi-fi deck it will have a pair of
phono outputs and you can find a lead that will terminate in stereo mini
jack at the other end you can get these at Maplin or perhaps even PC
world.
(2) What software should I
use?
A: You can use Sonar, although it is not typically what you would use,
it does have audio recording facilities and editing facilities. If you
are familiar with that I would use it.
(3) how do I ensure that it is split into tracks?
A: That is possibly the most difficult bit to automate and I wouldn't be
sure of how you did that unless we knew how the section was marked on
the audio tape. Whether you can do this by hand may depend on how much
you have to haul into digital domain.

Provided you can get a cassette player preferrably a hi-fi deck with
some leads going to your soundcard then you should be in business.

Hello,
Can anyone advise me on how to convert a regular magazine from cassette
to
CD? I don't have much in the way of software, and nothing in the way of
experience in this. Actually, I do have a copy of Sonar v3 Producer
Edition
which might be of use.
The magazine is divided into pages (ie page-numbers are read out).
Alternatively, is there a tutorial I could get/buy to help with this?
For
instance, John Wilson used to produce tutorials.
Cheers,
Norman O.
