SCMS was installed on all manner of consumer goods including consumer
soundcards.

Hello Tristam

I'm no expert on SCMS, but doesn't it need special circuitry (not present in a
soundcard) to operate? I seem to remember Amstrad producing and early CD Copier
with this feature and reading that CDs could be copied on PCs without problem
(apart from the snap, crackle and pop of noisy electronics).

I guess it really comes down to spending x hours re-recording MDs to CD, or y
hours re-downloading the mp3s to CD.

Regards
Tony

originally made using a digital connection themselves they may fall fouls of
SCMS copy protection at the point where signals reach the soundcard. I
think the original poster also was baulking at the time investment.

record the whole disc. It doesn't take long to top and tail tracks with a
little practice.
