This might be a good solution but if the MD discs are compiled from CD 
originally made using a digital connection themselves they may fall fouls of 
SCMS copy protection at the point where signals reach the soundcard.  I think 
the original poster also was baulking at the time investment.

However my suggestion is using something like soundforge or goldwave to record 
the whole disc.  It doesn't take long to top and tail tracks with a little 
practice.
