Yes, that type of card will both run 44.1KHz @ 16 bit and would not have SCMS
however this is not your average consumer soundcard typical in most PCs that
people use. Having said this I once had a problem making a digital clone of an
MD out of a consumer MD deck into a similarly specced M-Audio firewire external
module. I kept having the digital signal drift causing nasty distortion from
time to time and I am pretty certain that SCMS on the output might have been
causing problems. I did not investigate much further because I was able to
make a perfectly serviceable analogue transfer given the hardware I had to hand.

Hi Tris,
I think that on the M-audio 2496 there is a setting to circumnavigate this
problem. Not sure, it's in the hardware tab, and the options are consumer or
proffessional. As I say, i'm not sure about this, but it might be worth
checking further.
