Hello Daren
The daisy specification allows in principle the use of different audio
formats. In practice, MP3 is the one mostly use.
The navigation part of Daisy is specify in HTML or XML files depending on
the version of Daisy.
This navigation structure can point to any file name that is the files don't
have to be in any name order. In practice in the RNIB production they may
appear in order so when you open the CD in a MP3 player the order is the
same although this is not guaranteed by the Daisy specification.
I have been a happy customer with the RNIB book service from the start of
the digital service (3 - 4 years ago?) and in practice their books are just
simply playlists meaning there is no structure beyond the chapter list. For
example some books contain few parts but these are mostly just part of a
continuous list, I suspect that the reason for this is that some customers
can't cope with the navigation bit so this way they can use it like a tape
or jump forward and backwards if they wish. .
The TNAUK Daisy CD is using a number of level structured and use more
complicated file naming convention because of the different newspapers and
magazines involved so using a simple MP3 player will jumble the intended
order.
Regards
Isaac

Hi
yes, I was looking at the files of the disc with Windows Explorer and
noticed a lot of extra files.
Still, if you just wanted to listen and weren't worried about bookmarks etc,
you don't need a daisy player.

It's all to do with the navigation.

Hi folks
I've just joined the RNIB talking book Library as I now find they produced
digital audio books in daisy format.
Now, I'm lead to beleive that daisy formated books have to be played on a
compatible daisy player.
So, how come when I get my first books, I see that they are in fact mp3
files and I can play them fine in winamp and my mp3 compatible hifi system?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I think it's great, I'm just a bit
bemused.
