The answer to this can be any number of things. The first thing to make sure
of is that you have an up to date set of sound drivers for your soundcard. You
do not say what application you are using for your recorder or what type of
soundcard (or driver). If you use something better than a consumer sound card
that uses ASIO drivers you may be able to influence things by changing the
buffer size upwards so your PC does not have to work quite so hard whilst
recording. This will increase latency but unless you are multi-tracking this
should not be an issue.
This can be often a process of elimination and finding out the worst culprit or
multiples of culprit on your system is the name of the game. The other things
you need to consider are other applications or utilities that are running in
the background. You should try to reduce to an absolute minimum down to
essential the programs running in background. I've found the Nokia PC Suite
services have to be disabled sometimes if you have them on the same PC as they
can be murder for causing glitches. If anything automatically updates or
checks for updates this could be causing a problem, even Windows update on a
slower PC will cause a glitch potentialy. If you are able maybe siconnect from
the network.
Hope that helps.

Subject: [bcab] Computer hiccups
Hi all,
I am having trouble recording directly to my PC at the moment.
Playing files is fine, but when recording, tiny bits get skipped, and the
recording is ruined.
I have defragged the drives, cleared as much stuff out of the system tray as
is safely and humanly possible.
I will be grateful for any suggested solutions to this problem.
I should say that the computer is part of a home network with one other
computer on it.
Thanks,
Dave.
