Ah, sorry Vince.  I was actually just regurgitating someone else's 
explanation.  So, it's out of our control.  I'll change my settings back to 
html then.

Plenty of use plain text, me included, and it seems it makes no =
difference.=20
I've seen the same problem on other Freelists groups.
