Hi Kevin,
that's the point. The variations in the language between different
versions of COBOL mean that it is wise to learn to use the version of
the language you need. Put another way, if COBOL were English, the
British English version would give you a syntax error the phrase "fill
out a form", because it would expect you to write "fill in a form", and
vice versa.
Hope this helps,
Clive

Hi Phil
It's for writing CICS applications on IBM mainframes running MVS, but I
really need to learn the language itself.
Cheers

Hi Kevin,
What flavour of Cobol are you needing to learn and what machine will it
be run on?
I spent 25 plus years writing Cobol on an ICL mainframe but there are
differences between versions of Cobol.
Feel free to contact me directly if you think I can help.

Subject: [bcab] COBOL training and reference material
I guess the subject line says it all. I need to teach myself COBOL.
I'm looking for any textbooks, tutorials and reference material, either
online, on tape or in Braille. Does anybody have any good
recommendations.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Cheers
Kevin
