dear List
I know my Bt line is awful and I know the causes even the people before me
had the same problem long before computers were around. however this is why
once my line and computer did not go. a year or so ago we had a violent
thunderstorm in this area, this is quite common We get freaky spells of
weather when others a mile or so away don't. Not being keen on thunder and
lightening as I have lived in a house that was struck by lightening and it
was pretty scarey. I turn all off at the first rumble of thunder. Near me,
around the corner is Kent Cricket Ground and are many big trees. It so
happened that a large tree was struck by lightening, no house was struck at
all, now this puzzled me but is true. several neighbours as they are not
far all had their computers "blown out" their homes were not touched, they
told me it was due to the electrical charge being too high for the computer
which is sensitive to electrical highs and lows. Most got claims met by
their insurance companies under accidental breakage they were allowed to
have their computers made as good as before. I was interested in how
without a house being struck such damage could take place.
I think my own Insurer would mutter something about it being An Act of God
and avoiding the claim, I do have accidental breakage but just thought I
would mention to you as you may all be braver than I and
soldier on during storms lightening regardless so assuming they have
given me correct information how high does the electrical field need to be
to totally ruin your computers just because a tree nearby is struck by
lightening? I have heard about spiked cables and I have circuit breakers
but I actually turned off all switches and even the phone plug.
Incidentally I was told that in a thunderstorm relying on your Mobile is
highly dangerous Any ideas? dorothy...
