[bcab] Re: Backing up OE data

Oh dear Tom - I haven't got any more ideas. I hope someone can help
you out of this one. It seems strange - I've copied the dbx files
zillions of times and OE has recognised them...but that doesn't help
you of course!

Let us know if you find a solution.

Ah yes - I think someone earlier pointed you towards a program which
may help; I've also remembered that I've used a program called
DBXtract but that gets the messages out of dbx stores and into .eml
format for when my dbx stores were corrupted and OE wouldn't recognise
them. Perhaps your sent items is corrupted and that's why OE just
won't recognise it. So DBXtract wouldn't allow you to import into OE
but if you have important data there you can hopefully get it out and
read it. But you do need to use drag and drop with this program - let
me know (offlist if you like) if you want more info.

At the risk of being incredibly irritating, to cushion yourself from
the impact of such future blows, I suggest:
1. If you like, bcc important messages to yourself. I used to do
this when using OE to keep track of when people had replied, what they
said, etc easily in my inbox without going in/out of Sent Items.
2. Set OE up to leave a copy of messages on the server but delete
them from the server when they are deleted from OE.
3. Make regular copies of the dbx files - this hasn't helped you on
this occasion but it's saved me many a time and at least if corruption
does occur you could go back to the previous week's copy (if you copy
weekly)
4. Try and use an e-mail account (if you have an option about it)
which has a web interface you can use. So you can at least access
your mail when OE isn't functioning. I recommend googlemail.
5. Try not to let any folders, but particularly the inbox, get too full.
