[bcab] Audiodescription blog

Hi All,

Veronika Hykes, who has been working in audiodescription pretty much since it began in the UK more than ten years ago, has started a blog which she hopes will encourage broadcasters to do more, and even to keep up the current level, which may be in danger, as well as being a vehicle for feedback, positive as well as negative. She very much needs people to use the blog to give it weight. Here's what she says:

"The need for feedback is huge, not just for us, to make sure we are doing the best job possible but also for the film distributors and tv companies. Audio description has become a money making business and companies are undercutting each other quite ruthlessly and some of them offer better audio description than others, but unless we have feedback which praises those doing a good job and points a finger at those who are not, we cannot wave the quality card because price is all that the clients care about. If it's cheap who cares whether it is less well done, if nobody complains is the way they look at it.

So please tell us what you think about any audio description you come across and go and get the netgem box while they still have some in stock or get sky. First time buyers pay almost nothing."

All the best,

Peter
