[AZ-Observing] weather or not...

Just returned from a camping trip to Dairy Springs (back side of lake Mary).
We arrived on Thursday afternoon and got a brief rain in the evening. On
Friday all heck broke out with lots of thunder and it rained all night. We
watched a group of Asians setup their tents in the rain next to us in the group
camp site. I was asked if this was the kind of storm from the 100 year flood? I
responded that we are in a nine year drought and lake Mary was full when I
attended NAU. The next morning brought more rain that turned into pea sized
hail. I feared for my new truck getting dents. however all was well. Saturday
night was fantastic. The night was very dark and the skies were very
transparent. It was then that I remembered what Steve and AJ once told me about
the night after a storm bringing great skies. I had packed my 4" Mac but after
looking at the forecast and my daughter's "had to have" stuff, I left it home,
the tripod was already deep in the folded camper so it was a difficult choice.
And being deep in the trees I was only able to view nearly straight up with my
10X50 binoculars until dew and bitter cold forced me in for the night.
So the moral of this story is (as we all know) the weather people are not the
most dependable source for your plans. And I will always pack a scope even if I
must leave a child at home alone.

Clear skies.
