My pier is simply a 3'x3'x2'deep concrete base with 4 rebar sticking up and
to which I poured
a concrete column (pier). It was done in 2 seperate pours, and it's massive
enough that I have yet to notice ANY vibration. Then again, I haven't
deliberately kung-fu kicked the thing yet. I isolated all the concrete from
the floor, so walking around wouldn't cause problems.
With a 6" pipe, I'd at least fill it with sand, which will stop the pipe
from resonating, but have to agree that concrete would probably be better.
This is because the concrete would be rigid, and render the pipe inflexible,
where the sand would allow some flex. Also, I read somewhere that the more
mass you can attribute to the pier, the more stable it should be, another
plus for concrete.
Hope this helps,
Thad
