The north rim of the Grand Canyon has tended to be the first weekend in Oct.
by the second they are still good. This has been true for the past 10 years.
Humphrey's on the way to the south rim near the Nordic center is normally close
to that weekend. There is some color already in the inner basin at the San
Francisco Peaks....

Hi- The best color in the Alpine area usually centers around the time frame of
October 6-8. South of Alpine around Hannagan meadow it occurs a few days
earlier. If we get a heavy rain and strong wind the leaves can come off the
aspens in a day or two. What a disappointment that is. We have had a very
rainy summer and so the color may not be as good this year. In a good year the
area around Alpine is really gorgeous. We have Williams Valley, East and West
forks of the Black river, Big lake west of Alpine. North is the top of
Escudilla mountain at nearly 11000 feet with Terry Flat which is an old
caldera. South you have Hannagan Meadow and the Blue Lookout which is our
local Grand Canyon. East is a trip around Escudilla if they have maintained
the road. You can see way out into New Mexico from there. Alpine is a neat
spot.
