Glad to hear there was joy in China, Looking forward to an article for the
newsletter.  Are you touring on your own or with an organized group? Seems
like you've been getting around quite a bit. Will you be hanging around for
the Olympics?

oorah!



the eclipse was a success. we sweated bullets minutes prior to the event but
i think the uygher dancing the night before payed off. the huge cloud
decided to move in our favor so i got it on video this time.



the scenery surrounding the area was a barren high desert about 45 minutes
nw of yiwu. we had the tianshan mountains in the distance with snow capped
peaks. the authorities had set up an eclipse city and i would estimate about
a few thousand people in various groups. ran into another eclipse chaser
from 2005 in panama.

we are in turpan this evening and tomorrow head for urumqi. western china is
so different? esp. the food.

i could use a nice salad and steak real soon.
